The view of the falls at the end is totally worth it.
This is a quite scenic trail, especially during the wet times. The beginning of the trail (behind Mather Lodge) was steep and full of steps and roots. Turning right to go southeast onto the US 270, we then drove for about 3 miles to the Cr-196. However, the trail kept going up some rock steps as it led right up into the shady yet deep and wide open grotto that afforded us views of the waterfall from different angles. Time: 8 hrs
There was a footbridge traversing the fairly large creek, but a sign there indicated that only two people at a time could be on the bridge. Heavy traffic makes ruts and when raining it gets really sloppy. Massive boulders along the way. Our 9 and 12 year old loved exploring and climbing on the rocks. In fact, our passion for waterfalling is so strong that we’ve not only traveled the world looking for them, but we’ve created this website to share our personal experiences with you! Anyways, as we continued along the Cedar Falls trail, we noticed there were more large rocks flanking the path.Some of these rocks looked like they were balanced on top of each other.The trail continued to meander alongside Cedar Creek for the next half-mile. I unashamedly used hiking poles and was glad to have them. I would recommend going early before the crowd gets there.Great trail. It occupies the land of 3500-acre petti jean park in Conway Country Arkansas. The falls are easily reached via the cedar falls trail. We have done this several times. Still, with all things considered, we wound up spending between 30-40 minutes on the return hike, and the grand total hiking time was on the order of 60-90 minutes round trip (or 3 miles round trip if you include all the exploring around the falls). Once we got to the other side of bridge, we then turned right at the junction to follow the creek upstream towards the waterfall. The trail, beginning at the visitor center, quickly winds down steeply into the deep Cedar Creek Canyon, and then follows alongside the riffles and rapids of Cedar Creek, under overhangs, and around apartment-sized boulders, until you arrive at the trail's culmination- Cedar Falls.
Petit Jean is first Arkansas’s state park and after a visit to Cedar Falls, it is easy to see why. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. Please see the open trails nearby for alternate hiking options. Good hike and impressive vertical. So this caused a little bit of a queue given how popular this trail was. This falls drops water from a height of 100 feet. The BSA trail is pretty moderate, not too tough but you definitely need to watch your footing. Cedar Falls is an impressive 95 feet tall waterfall. Steep and rocky at beginning (and end...it’s an out and back). Great trail. Bridge is marked off and trail is closed to COVID 19 but seen multiple people on trail. The waterfall was really flowing when we went.We’ve done this hike several times and it gets better every time. Based on the reviews that we have read, the first part of the trail is very difficult, but then it levels out. Anyhow, along the descent, we noticed some trail junction for the Bear Cave Area, which we didn’t do. When Cedar Creek is flowing well, this is 95-foot waterfall is an amazing sight. Cedar Falls Trail [CLOSED] is a 3.1 kilometer heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Morrilton, Arkansas that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.Note: As of August 2020, the Cedar Falls Trail is currently closed to all hikers due to storm damage in early June.
Most fun after lots of rain. Please do not enter the area at this time. This trail is incredibly beautiful. Very slippery. I am a 50-something aerobics instructor in good shape .
