After a long wait, finally there is a local production that utilizes life as the main theme for a film. CHIU Keng Guan's THE JOURNEY made almost RM18 million at the cinemas.
He described it as a biopic of Dr Mahathir's life after office – both as a family man, as well as someone who's still interested in the political landscape of the country that he takes a stand in critiquing the then leaders.

With Benji's lack of cultural understanding and comprehension of Chinese traditions, Chuan opposes their marriage. But plans get twarted when she brings back her foreign boyfriend Benji with her and plans to get married instead. You will surely enjoy this movie more if you understand some Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Bahasa, Mandarin,.. (a lot of humour).

Uncle Chuan vigorously opposed to the marriage due to Ben's frivolous behavior but he failed to change his daughter's mind. The story is about Bee, who returns from Britain to Malaysia to seek her conservative and stubborn father's blessing for her marriage with a Caucasian, Benji.

Despite language barriers and initial hesitation from both parties, the two men come to realize that their priorities are essentially one and the same.Uncle Chuan is an old-fashioned and conservative man staying alone in Cameron Highlands leading a lonely retired life.
At the end, Uncle Chuan agreed to their marriage reluctantly, with a condition to be fulfilled- their wedding ceremony must be a Chinese ceremony. So the quintessential odd couple, Benji and Chuan, embark on a cross country adventure to deliver the invitations.

Without much choice, the journey of a long distance road travel of Uncle Chuan accompanied by Benji kicked started unwillingly.It looks like we don't have a Synopsis for this title yet. and 2011's GREAT DAY. The cinematography is stunning.
I was hesitate to watch this local production movie, but after a few rounds of good comment and some push from my kids and wife, I finally gave in and step into the cinema for a Malaysian movie. Was this review helpful? Since the film is filled with real-life people (Gerry Adams, Tony Blair, Bertie Ahern, etc. If comedy, we can laughing out loud all the way. Good direction and cinematography are not only successful in presenting great scenery across 6 states in Malaysia (without any effects) and the unique Chinese cultures and local multi-races tradition; but the good performance from unfamiliar cast, hilarious mixes heartfelt moments and amazing scores has successfully delivered audiences a clear message: it's sometimes just a coincidence that it makes those involved to be unhappy and misunderstood at the same time in life, but actually deep in heart everyone is cherishing each others.
Before watching the movie, I had a feeling that this going to be my next love and it proves :) The Journey tells the story of Uncle Chuan (Frankie Lee), a conservative father with a rigid set of rules.
For me, what's make the movie called 'great' is if the movie's genre is romance, we can feel the soul of love.
