The science is a bit poor in this book as we see earthquakes swallowing people whole, California being beset by gaping quakes every half hour, gravity lessening at the earth's core, and so forth. The ending lacks pizazz--they get to a dead end and Dorothy makes some sort of sign and Ozma magically transports them out of trouble, which felt lame. Ages 9 to 12.
